How can I care for my hands and feet?

We put our hands and feet through a lot every day, so they deserve a little extra attention. They’re often the first places to show signs of dryness or neglect. Here's how to keep them in top shape.

For Your Hands

  • Moisturize constantly. Your hands are always exposed to the elements and get washed frequently. Keep a good hand cream by your sink, in your bag, and on your nightstand. Apply it especially after washing your hands.
  • Use gentle soap. Harsh soaps can strip your hands of their natural oils. Look for a mild, moisturizing hand soap to prevent dryness.
  • Wear gloves. This one's important. Anytime you're doing chores, like washing dishes or cleaning with chemicals, put on a pair of gloves to protect your skin.
  • Don't forget the sunscreen. The backs of your hands are just as exposed to the sun as your face. Apply sunscreen there every day to prevent sun damage and premature aging.

For Your Feet

  • Clean and dry them well. Wash your feet daily with a mild soap, and make sure you dry them completely, especially between your toes, to prevent any fungal issues.
  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Your feet need a rich cream to stay soft. Focus on the heels and soles. It's a good idea to put on a thick layer at night before bed.
  • Exfoliate regularly. Use a foot scrub or pumice stone once or twice a week to get rid of rough, dead skin on your heels and calluses.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. This might sound obvious, but wearing shoes that fit well is the best way to prevent issues like corns and calluses from even starting.

A little bit of consistent care for your hands and feet can go a long way. They'll feel better, look better, and thank you for it.
