How should I properly shampoo and condition my hair?
Okay, so you hop in the shower, grab your shampoo, and get to it. Seems simple, right? Well, there are a few little habits that can totally change how your hair looks and feels. It’s all about technique.
The Shampoo Phase
- Get it really, really wet. First off, don't rush it. Make sure your hair is totally saturated with warm water. It helps open up the hair cuticle and gets rid of a lot of the initial dirt and product buildup.
- Less is more. You really don't need a huge glob of shampoos. Just a little bit, maybe a quarter-sized amount. Focus it right on your scalp, that’s where all the oil and gunk build up. Give yourself a nice little scalp massage to get it all clean.
- Rinse it all out. Seriously, rinse until you're sure there’s nothing left. Leftover shampoo can weigh your hair down and even make your scalp itchy.
The Conditioner Phase
- Mid-lengths to ends. Now for the conditioner. Here’s a big one: you don’t need to put it on your scalp! It'll just make your hair look greasy. Instead, apply it from the middle of your hair down to the ends. Those are the parts that really need the moisture.
- Let it sit. Don't just rinse it right off! Let it sit for a few minutes while you do the rest of your shower stuff. This gives the conditioner time to actually sink in and do its job.
The Final Touch
And for the final rinse? Use cool water. I know it sounds a little uncomfortable, but it helps close the hair cuticle back up, locking in moisture and giving your hair a crazy amount of shine. Plus, it helps with frizz!
See? Just a few simple tweaks, and your hair will feel so much healthier. It’s a game-changer!
