What are oils?

You know how some skincare stuff can be kind of intimidating? Oils can totally be one of them. But honestly, they’re super easy to use, and they do a lot for your skin. Think of them as a natural, really effective way to get some nourishment in.

There are two main kinds of oils you'll see in cosmetics:

  • Carrier Oils: These are the base oils. They come from seeds and nuts, like jojoba oil, argan oil, or apricot oil. They're full of fatty acids and vitamins. They work by creating this protective shield on your skin, you know, to keep moisture from escaping.
  • Essential Oils: These are way more concentrated. They come from the aromatic parts of plants, like tea tree oil, lavender, or chamomile. They're super potent, so you almost always have to dilute them with a carrier oil before you put them on your skin. They're usually used to deal with a specific issue, like blemishes.

How to Use Oils

  • As a Moisturizer: A great way to use a carrier oil is to put a few drops on your skin right after you get out of the shower. When your skin is still a little damp, it helps lock in that moisture.
  • For Targeted Treatment: Got a blemish? You could put a tiny dab of diluted tea tree oil on it to help it heal.
  • In a Blend: You can even mix different oils to create a custom blend that's perfect for your skin.

Quick Tips

Just like with any new product, do a patch test first to make sure you don't have a reaction. Also, if you’re pregnant or have any specific skin conditions, it's a good idea to talk to a dermatologist before adding new oils to your routine. Overall, oils are a great way to give your skin a beautiful, healthy glow.
